Frequently Asked Questions - FAQs

  •  Is Abacus Tuition open in the school holidays?

Abacus Tuition is open as normal throughout the year with three exceptions:

  1. Closed for two weeks at Christmas
  2. Closed during the six weeks summer holiday
  3. Closed on Bank Holidays

Exact dates will be in the monthly newsletter.

  •  If I need to speak to you, what is the best way to contact you?

It is much easier to contact me by text, email or leave a message on my voice mail.  If you need me to call you back please say so and I will call back as soon as possible.  I can usually be contacted on my mobile.

  •  Do I need to inform you if my child will be missing a lesson?

Yes.  Sometimes others need to swap a lesson.  In order to be able to accommodate this we need to know the number of children attending each session.  Otherwise we are saying no to people unnecessarily.

  •  What happens if my child misses a lesson?

There may be a time when your child needs to miss a lesson for whatever reason.  In order for us to continue providing tuition at this affordable price we ask that all missed lessons are paid for.  However, so that 'you' don’t lose out either your child will be able to attend a ‘catch up lesson’ during another session in the week.

  •  How can I use my ‘Catch up lesson’?

A ‘Catch up lesson’ can be attended during one of the other lessons in the week.  Catch up lessons must be pre-booked and are offered on a first come first serve basis.  PLEASE NOTE refunds are not given for missed lessons.  ALL catch up lessons can ONLY be used in the same academic year, otherwise, will be lost.  It is up to you to ask for the catch up lesson.

IF YOU FAIL TO ATTEND AN AGREED CATCH UP SESSION YOU DO LOSE IT.

Please ask if still unsure.

  •  Does tuition continue throughout the year?

Abacus Tuition continues throughout the year except, two weeks at Christmas, bank holiday Mondays and the summer holiday.  We are open at all other times unless notified otherwise.

  •  Should I pay monthly or weekly?

ALL parents now pay on a monthly basis.  Monthly payments should be made at the beginning of each month during the first lesson.  You can if you wish pay by Direct Debit

  • How can I pay for the lessons?

All payments should be given to the child for collection during the break.  NO PAYMENTS SHOULD BE MADE AT THE BEGINNING OR THE END OF A SESSION.  We would much rather use that time to see the children off safely and talk to parents.  Please make cheques payable to ‘Abacus Tuiton’.  Also note that some months have five sessions so please adjust your payments accordingly.  Direct Debit.

  •  What does my child need to bring to each lesson?

In order to get the best from each lesson your child must come prepared with all the usual equipment in a pencil case and their study books.  All secondary pupils MUST bring a scientific calculator.  They are NOT allowed to use the calculator on their mobile phones!

  •  What are the arrangements for dropping & picking up my child for each lesson?

Each lesson will start and finish promptly.  Please drop and pick up your child(ren) on time.  If you are going to be late for whatever reason please inform us.  NO child will be allowed to leave the centre on their own unless you have given us WRITTEN consent to do so.

  •  Is my child allowed to bring a mobile phone?

If you are happy for them to bring it to tuition that is fine.  However, they must put it on silent and NOT use it during tuition.  Also please be aware that they bring it (or any other valuables) at their own risk. We will not take any responsibility for items going missing.

  • How much notice do I need to give if my child will no longer be attending?

At Abacus Tuition there is NO CONTRACT.  You stay with us for as long as you are happy.  However, out of courtesy we would appreciate that you give us as much notice as possible if your child is leaving so that we are not turning other children away unnecessarily.  Please do not leave without informing us at all!
